Open Road Learner and Mentor
OR learner and Mentor

A story of Paying it forward

Graham taught Issa who then taught Ahmad!

Issa was one of the first learner drivers on the Open Road programme who got his full licence. Two years later Issa became a mentor and can teach clients in their own language.

Issa said “Getting my full licence has helped us settle better and begin their life in NZ.  It has meant that job opportunities as well as freedom of movement.  Open Road is a great programme and my mentor, Graham is more like and uncle to me.  I am very glad that I am able to help others now as a mentor.  I am paying it forward to my community to help others to settle in their new lives in NZ”.

Graham has been with Open Road from the first intake in 2017.  He has now taught more than 10 people to drive.

Left to Right: Graham Smith, Issa Al Sharrif and Ahmad Alomki.
